In July, 2017 the Office of National Statistics estimated 6.5 million carers in the UK save the UK economy almost £60bn per year. It would otherwise cost £56.9bn to replace those carers with paid care. An increasing number of people are caring for longer durations and because we live for longer (1, 2).

How many of us rely on the care of unpaid carers to help us in our own homes, nursing homes and hospices? What are the sacrifices made by partners, children, relatives or friends to provide this support? It may range from providing lifts or phone calls or more likely giving 35 hours a week on a regular basis. I have a personal connection with this special group of people with a carer in my own family and understand their important role in making every day possible. You may have found the contact details for carers support groups in the county, if not, they are listed below (3).

CRISP (Carers Resource, Information and Support Programme)
So this is why I’ve joined the scheme through the Dorset Carers Card to help recognise the hard work and dedication with a discount scheme (4). I operate in Region 3 Dorchester, Wareham and Swanage, but am happy to take bookings from any of the 7 regions.

Dorset carers and Caring Osteopathy
I’m sure you would appreciate an opportunity for osteopathy, acupuncture or massage treatments to help you so you can provide this invaluable support. I’m sure you may benefit from a session should you get back or joint pain or just to ensure your posture, joints and muscles are as healthy as they can be. I also offer relieving and relaxing deep tissue massage sessions to address any aches and pains. Do contact me for a short obligation free consultation at either Cheselbourne or Poundbury, and, when you contact me for an appointment please say you are a carer.
